ASKED JUDGE TO DISMISS RAPE AND SEX TRAFFICKING LAWSUIT THE-DREAM

The-Dream filed a plea to have the allegations of rape and sex trafficking against him dropped.

The R&B singer has already refuted charges made by Chanaaz Mangroe, a former protégé, that he sexually and emotionally abused her. According to Variety, the singer-songwriter is requesting many changes from the court presiding over the case in his motion.

In addition to requesting the elimination of 300 words from the file that he believes are “irrelevant” to the proceedings, he is requesting that the rape allegation be dropped from the lawsuit since, according to California law, it is not a separate civil cause of action. The Dream further requests that his Delaware-based firm, Contra Paris LLC, be excluded from the petition. He also argues that the California legislation, which defines a “commercial element,” does not apply to the sex trafficking charge, and that the allegation is without merit.

Desirée F. Moore, The-Dream’s attorney, stated in a statement that the Complaint “is a textbook example of a’shotgun pleading’ and must be dismissed in its entirety for failing to attribute specific factual allegations to each defendant.” “Dozens of allegations in Plaintiff’s Complaint are purely baseless attempts to discredit Diamant and are completely unrelated to her claims of sexual assault and sex trafficking.”

Moore went on to say that The-Dream was the target of the lawsuit for “financial gain.” Additionally, she restated The-Dream’s position that the two never engaged in non-consensual sex and that the singer stopped their relationship, with Mangroe pursuing him thereafter.

In response to the request, Mangroe’s legal team released the following statement: “The-Dream’s arguments seeking to dismiss Plaintiff’s allegations are completely unpersuasive.” In this instance, we are eager to refute the motions and move forward with discovery. A dark room next to a recording studio is where The-Dream allegedly locked Ms. Mangroe, violently having sex with her and leaving her alone, naked in the dark, for hours on end. He then allegedly returned to have more sex with her and demanded that she tell him she loved him. This is allegedly how he increased his control over Mangroe in 2015.

The “Umbrella” co-writer would characterise the charges as “untrue and defamatory.”
